Essential Oil of the Month – August: Frankincense Oil

It is August. For some of you, this might be a good thing (probably because it’s your birthday month – happy birthday!) but for most of us, it’s just another month of more work and more (Yep, you guessed it) work. But August doesn’t have to be only known for being the last month before Spring. There’s quite a lot that’s happening this month such as International Beer Day, International Forgiveness Day and of course International Lefthanders Day on the second Sunday of August. Hopefully, you've also celebrated the first week of the month as International Clown Week and World Breastfeeding Week? Woah – is it just me, or is August already very busy?

Now that you know August is not just another month on the calendar, let me introduce to you this month’s special essential oil: Frankincense oil.

Known as the king of essential oils, Frankincense is the third gift given by the wise men to baby Jesus on his birth. The benefits, when taken internally and applied topically, are extensive, so much so that it was highly esteemed by ancient civilizations. It continues to be used in many religious and spiritual ceremonies. The unique scent has made it popular in perfumes and aromatherapy as it evokes feelings of peace and contentment.

In the skincare industry, it is revered for its ability to rejuvenate skin and reduce inflammation. Its antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties make it perfect for skin care. The benefits include the ability to help strengthen skin, improve its tone, elasticity and it also reduces the appearance of blemishes. This is why we regard it as an essential ingredient in the Le Riche Naturals Brightening Face Mask, the Regenerating Night Balm and the Miracle Moisturiser.

Ways in which you can bring Frankincense into your daily routine this month is by diffusing a few drops of the oil in your home or rubbing it onto your temples which will help you focus your intentions for the day. Also, if you or your partner struggle with itchy razor bumps, use the natural and gentle Miracle Moisturiser and Regenerating Night Balm. These are enhanced with Frankincense oil and will help to soothe your skin. If your hands or feet are scaly and suffering from the harsh winter cold, mix a few drops of Frankincense oil with your favourite hand cream or body lotion to help moisturize and rejuvenate the skin. It will add a spicy, warm scent to your skin – an added benefit. But don’t forget your fingernails. Whenever you are traveling somewhere dry, rub a bit of the oil on and around your cuticles. It will provide hydration and keep your nails looking strong and healthy.

Hoping you enjoy the tips and manage to avoid the August rush by incorporating Frankincense essential oil into your life. You won’t regret it.
